Of course, a solution to a business problem needs to be practical. But you have to be careful that this kind of thinking doesn’t prevent innovation.
Why do organizations want to master or at least improve diversity and inclusion?
How Well Do You Understand The Problem?
If you think the solution is a plan to simply increase the number of minority employees within your organization, you are making one of the most common mistakes. You are seeing symptoms as the problem, leading you to ask the wrong questions….and you aren’t alone.
Remember that the status quo creates the problem you are trying to address. But as a product of that environment, it can seem natural to fall back on the idea that a diversity and inclusion certificate program is the solution to the problem. This is what Einstein was talking about in the famous quote ” We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them. ” Many miss the opportunity to discover creative solutions because of how narrowly they think of a business solution needing to be practical.

Innovation allows producers and teams to thrive in uncertain times. That’s because while others are stuck resisting change, innovators are able to find new paths forward to grow market share. It is time to go beneath the surface of the notion that a solution to a business problem needs to be practical. Let’s start by thinking about what the word Practical means.
